Making The Dress
Making Your Dress
The fabric used in your gown is always ordered from a supplier who I know will provide wonderful high quality fabrics and a range of shades to ensure the most flattering combination for the individual bride.
Many dresses I now make have a fully corsetted bodice as the internal layer and this is either laced inside the finished bodice which will close with a hidden zip and/or covered buttons made from the dress fabric, or, as the chosen style for the dress, the entire corset will be covered with the dress fabric and laced with ribbons - again made from the fabric. I am assured by every bride that this gives a very comfortable and secure fit for her wedding dress and from a design point of view, I have found that this approach gives a lovely fit and line to the wedding gown.
In any case a pattern is hand drafted for each bride to her individual measurements and work can then begin!
A test garment is always made up first in a suitable inexpensive fabric and any alterations to fit or changes of design happen at this stage as the silk or other dress fabric should be handled as little as possible to maintain its beautiful appearance and give a pristine appearance to this very special dress! Samples of any beading, trims or embroidery will be sourced or made for the bride's approval at this point and when all is to your satisfaction your gown will be made!
Every dress is fully lined and interlined, hand finished to a high standard and aseparate underskirt is made or purchased if required. Great care is taken to source exactly the right trimmings and final details for the gown and a veil can be made which complements the dress and completes the perfect picture of a beautiful bride!
Matt silk duchesse satin with an overlay of ivory and champagne delicate corded lace are used in this elegant and feminine dress.
